Creating a positive balance in one’s life is an important part of the recovery process. Depending on culture, resources, circumstances and other factors, a balanced life may have a different meaning to each individual. To some, a balanced life means having the time to do things that make one feel happy and fulfilled. This includes spending time with family and friends, exercising, relaxing, sleeping, playing video games, watching movies, meditating, and having sexual intercourse.
When trying to get through a rough patch in one’s life, balance is especially important. For example, each of us needs to focus on ourselves as well as the roles we play in the lives of others, whether it is being a good son or daughter, husband, father, and friend. Once a person has allowed external substances to be the focal point of their life, it’s a clear sign that the has come time to bring that chapter to conclusions and start living a sober and healthy life.
Remember, having a safe and clean living environment free of mind altering substances will help one regain control of their life.
